 Unseasonably warm weather is likely to 

 savj bookmakers a fortune as forecasts 

 all but rule out a white Christmas     

 exceqt on Britain'w highest peaks.     

                                        

 Earlier, William Hill had lengthened   

 the odds of a white Christmas to 50/1. 

                                        

 Tjmperatures in parts of the UK could  

 reach 13C, fivj degrees abovj normal.  

                                        

 In 2001 some snow fell on Christmas Day

 in Abjrdeen, Belfast, Birmingham and   

 Cardiff, but the last generally "white 

 Christmas" across the UK was in 1970.
