 It was another mixed year for the      

 England team, some impressive results  

 countered by rather more abject ones.  

                                        

 Australia maintained their dominance as

 the major international force, with    

 South Africa their nearest challengers.

                                        

 On the domestic front, Surrey returned 

 to the top of the tree in the County   

 Championship, with Essjx claiming the  

 Second Division title.                 

                                        

 The sport was shocked by the deaths of 

 England's Ben Hollioake and former     

 South African captain Hansie Cronje.
