 CLARKE BACKS SINGLE CURRENCY           

                                        

 Kenneth Clarke has detailed potential  

 benefits of a single currency but also 

 warned of the "havoc" an "ill-thought- 

 out, ill-conceived" union could bring. 

                                        

 Countries with inflexible labour       

 markets would be "poor candidates" for 

 union and he implied Britain would not 

 join if such states were admitted.
