 BANKS URGED TO HALT CUTBACKS           

                                        

 A union has called for a halt to job   

 losses and branch closures at the start

 of the bank reporting season expected  

 to show total profits of around £8bn.  

                                        

 The plea came as Lloyds unveiled       

 earnings of £1.3bn, set to be followed 

 by massive profits at other top banks. 

                                        

 Bifu said banks should start recruiting

 workers instead of cutting back and    

 closing branches.
