 WIMPEY IN £43.5m MINERALS DEAL         

                                        

 George Wimpey is to buy Alfred         

 McAlpine's minerals business for £43.5m

                                        

 A total of 16 quarries and five asphalt

 plants with reserves of 100m tonnes    

 based largely in the central belt of   

 Scotland and Wales are included.       

                                        

 Alfred McAlpine will retain control of 

 its slate products business. Wimpey    

 said the acquisition was "an ideal fit"

 for its present business.
