  In 1985 capital gains tax rules were  

  extended so that indexation could be  

  used to create a loss, or increase an 

  existing loss.                        

                                        

  Changes made in the November 1993     

  budget returned everything to the pre-

  1985 position.                        

                                        

  Losses can no longer be indexed to    

  create or increase a capital loss.
