  The Inland Revenue says the changes   

  are aimed at stopping exploitation    

  of the previous rules. For example:   

                                        

  $ shares bought for £1,000 and later  

    sold for £1,200 show £200 profit    

  $ indexation of £400 may have been    

    allowed on that £200 profit         

  ■ deducted from the unindexed gain it 

    would produce a "loss" of £200.
