 CVCP CALLS FOR RENEWED EXPANSION       

                                        

 University bosses have called for the  

 cap on university places to be removed 

 from 1996-97.                          

                                        

 Student numbers should be allowed to   

 rise by 5.5% a year thereafter, says   

 the Committee of Vice Chancellors and  

 Principals. They want 40% of school    

 leavers to enter higher education by   

 the end of the century.                

                                        

 A university education equips people   

 for life-long learning, says CVCP.
