 Stocks rebounded in the afternoon and  

 closed firmer after three days of falls

                                        

 Brokers said selling of construction   

 shares by foreign investors had slowed 

 down and a recovery in many of them    

 triggered short-covering by dealers.   

                                        

 Futures-linked buying also helped the  

 Nikkei average finish the session on a 

 brighter note.
