 Pete McCarthy visits this extensive    

 triangular area which encompasses      

 Hong Kong, Macau and Guangdong Province

 in China.                              

                                        

 Hong Kong has been a British colony    

 since 1841, but in 1997 it will be     

 handed back to China.                  

                                        

 The 500-year old Portuguese colony of  

 Macau - just an hour away from Hong    

 Kong by hydrofoil - will also be handed

 back to China two years later in 1999.
