■ RAMBLER QUITS OVER CAR DEAL
The chairman of the Ramblers' Assn has
walked out over plans for a sponsorship
deal with a car company, it has emerged
Alan Howard said it was wrong for a
body which was involved in the public
transport lobby and protests against
road building to accept such a deal.
The proposed deal later fell through
but Mr Howard decided not to withdraw
his resignation as the principle had
been agreed upon.
