 MANWEB PULLS PLUG ON SHOPS             

                                        

 Electricity company Manweb is to close 

 its High Street shops, which will      

 become customer service centres.       

                                        

 Five superstores have been sold to     

 ScottishPower, which will add them to  

 its expanding English retail chain.    

                                        

 Manweb blamed competition in electrical

 retailing for the move, which would    

 mean some 200 voluntary redundancies,  

 but no compulsory sackings.
