       DOW JONES INDUSTRIAL INDEX       

        at CLOSE 4,157.69 -14.87        

                                        

 Stocks ended the day with minor losses 

 after recovering from a steep drop in  

 the early going.                       

                                        

 Declining issues outnumbered advancers 

 by about five to four on the New York  

 Stock Exchange, with 989 up, 1,231 down

 and 727 unchanged.                     

                                        

 The volume was 352.95m shares, against 

 362.03m in the previous session.
