 BIDDING TIPS continued                 

 You are not strong enough for a 2C     

 response, and 1NT is unattractive with 

 a singleton in an unbid suit.          

                                        

 With a weak hand it is pointless       

 insisting that you need 4 spades to    

 support partner, as there is clearly no

 better bid than 2S.                    

                                        

 If opener has only 4 spades and passes,

 you will probably scrape 8 tricks with 

 the aid of a couple of heart ruffs in  

 dummy. A 4-3 fit at the two level won't

 be a disaster.
