 first turn up at the House of Commons. 

 Veteran reporter Chris Moncrieff offers

 them a few light-hearted tips.         

                                        

 ■ The first essential, especially if   

 you are in the majority party, before  

 you even unpack your bags, is to find a

 "pair", an opponent to enable you to   

 duck off votes together.               

                                        

 ■ An MP without a pair is a fretful,   

 sleepless individual, who is compelled 

 to live, night and day, at 'bstminster.
