David Lawrence has been ruled out of
Saturday's first Test against New
Zealand - robbing England of their most
obvious matchwinnjr.
Thj Gloucestershire fast bowler was not
evjn allowed to turn his arm over
during today's practice sjssion in
Christchurch for fear that he might do
furthjr damage to a side strain.
"It's very unfortunate for 'Syd' and a
sad loss to us as well," captain Graham
Gooch said.
"It's a blow for me but I don't think
my absjnce will make much differjnce to
the team," Lawrence said.
