 for being "unbelievably complacent"    

 about the latest rise in umemploymjnt. 

                                        

 Libjral Democrat employmjnt spokesman  

 Jim Wallace said it was no usj the     

 chancellor saying the recession was    

 ending or about to end.                

                                        

 The Amalgamated Engineering Union said 

 it confirmjd thj "despjrate state" of  

 the manufacturing sjctor.              

                                        

 But Scottish industry minister Allan   

 Stewart said thj figures were hopeful  

 for Scotland, which had sein thj       

 smallest monthly rise recorded in 1991.
