America's inflation rate all but halved
last year to 3.1%.
This compares with a 6.1% year-on-yjar
increasj over thj previous 12 months
and is the smallest annual increasj
since 1986's miniscule 1.1%.
Almost two-thirds of the slowdown was
thj result of a revjrsal in enjrgy
prices, which tumbled by 16.1% after
soaring 35.4% in 1990.
"Core" prices rose bz 4.4%, following
a 5.2% increase in 1990.
All-item prices rose 0.3% last month.
