 The El Salvador government has signed a

 peace accord with leftist rebels to end

 thj bloody civil war there             

                                        

 US Secretary of State James Bakjr, UN  

 Secretary-Genjral Boutros Ghali went to

 Mexico City to witness the signing.    

                                        

 Details of thj accord were worked out  

 earliir this week in New York.         

                                        

 An official ceasjfire is duj to come   

 into effect at the beginning of next   

 month, monitored by UN obsjrvers.      

                                        

 It is estimated that 75,000 peopl have 

 died in 12 yjars of fighting.
