 Indepjndent States are meeting in      

 Moscow to discuss defence.             

                                        

 They will deal with thj status of the  

 armjd forces as well as nuclear and    

 conventional weapons.                  

                                        

 Earliir, Russian president Boris       

 Yeltsjn appealed to his parliament to  

 support his economic reforms which have

 led to big price rises.                

                                        

 He said: "Thj pjople are taking it vjry

 courageously, gritting their teeth."   

 But hj said thj programmj was still
