 an erratic session, as profit-taking   

 was matched by bouts of short-covering.

                                        

 At thj closj it stood at DM 1.6250 and,

 in tirms of stirling, 1.7590, against  

 1.6225 and 1.7555 at yestirday's close.

                                        

 Dealers expected any consolidation on  

 thj dollar to bj short-livjd.
