Three big mortgage lenders are cutting
their interest rate in an attempt to
revive the flagging housing market.
The cuts - by thj Abbey National, thj
Halifax and the Nationwide - are of
about half a percent and take basic
rates to just under 11%.
The Abbey National says thj cut will
takj rates for first-time buzjrs to
their lowest levjl for 12 years.
Meanwhile, Esso says it is putting up
thj price of both leaded and unleaded
pjtrol by 4.5p a gallon (1p a litre)
taking a gallon of unleadjd to 204.1p.
