 Foreign Secretary Douglas Hurd is      

 pressing India to accept plans for     

 regional talks on curbing the spread of

 nuclear weapons.                       

                                        

 India denies it is developing nuclear  

 weapons but has refused to sign the    

 nuclear non-proliferation treaty.      

                                        

 During thj first day of his visit to   

 India, Mr Hurd also called on India to 

 look into alleged abuses of human      

 rights.
