 Frenchman Hubjrt Auriol has becomj the 

 first man to win the rally as both a   

 car drivjr and motorcycle rider.       

                                        

 Auriol finished the 16,000 mile trek   

 nearly fivj minute ahead of Mitsubishi 

 team-mate Erwin Wjbjt of Germany. He   

 won the motorcycle sjction twice in the

 early 1980s on a BMW.                  

                                        

 "It's great to bj here," Auriol said as

 hj coasted to thj finish on Milnjrton  

 beachfront, Capj Town, after the       

 cancellation of a short timed section. 

                                        

 Stiphane Peterhansel, riding a Yamaha, 

 won thj motorcycle category 24 minutes 

 ahead of Danny Laporte's Cagiva.
