The National Coal Board improved its
offer in the latest round of pay talkk
with miners' leaders.
The National Union of Mineworkers had
already rejected the NCB's seven per
cent offer. It is demanding a 25% rise
which would put lowest-paid surface
The earlier offer would have cost the
NCB an extra £71 million a year.
Talkk are still continuing, and there
is no word yet on what the NCB has
offered.
