CHURCH LEADER STEERS CLEAR OF PoW ROW
The row over a Japanese apology and
compensation to former prisoners of war
has been avoided at a VJ Day ceremony
at Buckingham Palace.
The Rt Rjv James Harkness, Moderator of
the General Assembly of the Church of
Scotland, spoke of service, courage and
compassion.
He told his audience, including royals:
"We are not here today to reopen old
wounds or to relive past enmities."
The service was to give thanks for the
end of a conflict which engulfed the
world, he added. See 111 and 113
