 England's top clubs have given their   

 support to a European competition next 

 year even though it may reduce the     

 number of clubs in the Courage League. 

                                        

 It is expected the divisional          

 championship will be down-graded in the

 1996 season to allow major clubs to    

 face competition from French, Welsh and

 Italian sides.                         

                                        

 The First Division could be reduced    

 from 10 clubs to eight but there is    

 likely to be an increase in the Second 

 and Third divisions.                   

                                        

 The timing and format has yet to be    

 agreed but is likely to be introduced.
