 JAPAN FIGHTS ON AS GERMANY DEFEATED    

 On 7 May 1945 the German High Command  

 signed the unconditional surrender of  

 all German armed forces.               

                                        

 Victory in Europe Day was officially   

 celebrated the following day, and for  

 most people, six years of horror and   

 hardship were finally at an end.       

                                        

 But for many others, peace would not   

 come for three long months.            

                                        

 The Imperial Japanese Armed Forces     

 fought on in the Far East, despite     

 the fall of their Nazi allies.
