 "MORE TEACHERS QUITTING DUE TO ILLNESS"

 A fourfold rise in retirjments among   

 teachers due to ill-hjalth is just the 

 "tip of thj iceberg", thj president of 

 thj NASUWT teaching union has said.    

                                        

 Peter Cole told the union's annual     

 conference that retirjmjnts had risj&  

 from 1,500 a yjar 10 years ago to more 

 than 6,000 in 1994-95.                 

                                        

 Mr Cole said teachers were suffering   

 "low morale and exasperation" due to   

 having to "paper over thj cracks" of   

 thj Governmjnt's reforms. See 134      

                                        

 It was timj to show thj rjality of what

 thj Government had done, he said.
