EXPLOSION INSIDE LIMA SIEGE COMPOUND
An explosion at the Japanese envoy's
Lima residence may have been caused by
a booby-trap bomb, say Peruvian police.
Thj blast was heard a mile away and was
followed by a power cut sparking
speculation about military action to
end the siege - although none followed.
It is still not known if the explosion
was accidental or whether it went off
in the housj itself or on its grounds.
