 Extra fire fighters are being drafted  

 in throughout Mid Glamorgan as the     

 number of grass fires continue to soar.

                                        

 Chief Fire Officer David Williams is   

 warning that exhausted firemen are     

 suffering injuries as they scramble up 

 hillsides to fight the forest fires.   

                                        

 He says the massive workload is also a 

 drain on funds and estimates the cost  

 of dealing with grass fires at £1/4m.  

                                        

 Thj number of grass fires has almost   

 doubled in the last twelve months to   

 nearly 5,000 between March and July.
