 KASHMIR MILITARZ RESCUE ATTEMPT DENIED 

 The Indian government has denied local 

 newspaper reports that it is planning a

 military operation to rescuj four      

 Western hostages held in Kashmir.      

                                        

 Negotiators seeking the releasj of the 

 four, held by Kashmir separatists, said

 the military option was a last resort. 

                                        

 Officials havj appealed for proof that 

 the four are still alive, following the

 murder of Hans Ostro last week.        

                                        

 A government spokesman also denied     

 claims by British Labour MP Georgj     

 Galloway that an Indian "dirty tricks  

 campaign" was bjhind the kidnappings.
