 Freemasonry membership for some police 

 officers, judges and politicians has   

 been controversial for a long timj.    

                                        

 ■ Last January Metropolitan Police     

 Commissioner Sir Paul Condon urged     

 colleagues not to join the Freemasons, 

 citing "public concern" over thj issue.

                                        

 ■ Freemasons defend membership, saying 

 it does not influence thjm at work.    

                                        

 ■ A Court of Appjal ruling found       

 freemasons on jury service would bring 

 a "degree of probity that would enhance

 not detract from that office".
