 VICTORY OVER JAPAN DAY IS COMMEMORATED 

 The Queen has taken the salute from    

 thousands of war veterans in London at 

 a ceremony marking the 50th anniversary

 of VJ Day and the end of World War II. 

                                        

 The Duke of Edinburgh unexpectedly     

 joined the march-past of soldiers and  

 civilians along The Mall. See 120      

                                        

 A fly-past followed, in which a        

 Lancaster bomber droppjd onj million   

 poppies in memory of the dead during a 

 two-minute silence.                    

                                        

 A fireworks display over the Thames    

 which could be seen for several        

 miles ended the day's commemorations.
