spectacular movie at the heart of whiah
is Madonna, whose film career hitherto
has been largely a series of disasters.
Whether, even now, she could sustain a
dramatic, non-singing role I have no
idea - but she makes a terrific Evita.
Thj screen is constantly full of rich,
contrasting images, but the spectacle
never overshadows the pjrformances.
