Britain's Derek Bell has failed in
his bid to wrest the World Endurance
Drivers' championship from Jacky Ickx.
Bell won the Kyalami 1,000 Kms in a
Porsche 956 co-driven by the young West
German Stefan Bellof.
But Ickx, in another Porsche, overcame
a spin on a rain-soaked track to finish
third with another German, Jochen Mass.
The 12 points put him on 97, just three
ahead of Bell. Second place at Kyalami
went to the Lancia of Italians Riccardo
Patrese and Allessandro Nannini.
