Pharmaceuticals came in for an early
mark-down, following the Government's
announcement of a campaign to cut the
NHS's drug bill. Both Beecham and
Glaxo droppfd 10p, to 318p and 730p.
The cement price freeze knocked 4p off
BCI (down to 426p); while newspaper
strike fears had WH Smith "A" off 10p
at 138p and Reed off 4p at 372pN
Going the other way was BICC, 10p ahead
at 240p on hopes of benefits flowing
from Australia's dollar flotation. The
delayed Monopolies report (Page 122)
left P&O 6p adrift at 242p.
