 Derbyshire police say their clampdown  

 on Christmas drinking-and-driving      

 has paid off, with accidents down      

 by 55% for the three day period.       

                                        

 There was one death yesterday - the    

 first on Derbyshire's roads since the  

 police campaign began, on December 18. 

                                        

 Altogether 53O people have been        

 breathalysed since then - 4O tests     

 were positivie and 5 refused to blow   

 into the bag. Apparently it is now     

 almost impossible to book a taxi in    

 the area until after New Year's Day.
