Kevin Keegan has won the votes of
top sportswriters across the Continent
as European Footballer of the Year.
Now with SV Hamburg, Keegan can add
it to the British Footballer of the
Year title he won in 1975/6 when with
Liverpool.
Runner-up for the European title
was Austrian World Cup star Hans
Krankl, who plays for Barcelona of
Spain, and third was Rob Rensenbrink,
the Dutchman now with Belgian club,
Anderlecht. Keegan is the fifth
British player to top the poll since
it started in 1922, following Stanley
Matthews, Denis Law, Bobby Charlton
and George Best.
