 An MP has called on the Prime Minister 

 to intervene quickly to try to avert   

 the threatened strike by water workers.

                                        

 Mr John Ryman, who is the Labour MP for

 Blyth, has written to Mrs Thatcher     

 warning of the serious threat to public

 health a water strike would pose.      

                                        

 He claims that a national water strike 

 is now imminent following the rejection

 by 52,000 water workers of the final   

 pay offer.                             

                                        

 Leders of the four unions involved meet

 on Wednesday to consider their next    

 move.
