 Snow covered almost all of Britain     

 today, bringing chaos to roads and     

 forcing the abandonment of sports      

 meetings - and more is forecast.       

                                        

 The worst-affected areas were the west 

 Midlands and parts of Wales, with up to

 eight inches of snow falling on the    

 high ground around Birmingham. East    

 Midlands and Birmingham airports were  

 closed.                                

                                        

 The RAC has warned that temperatures   

 are expected to drop well below        

 freezing in many areas tonight, caurhng

 "very dangerous" road conditions.
