 A hectic debut for British Aerospace   

 had reporters on the floor of the Stock

 Exchange reaching for some high-flying 

 metaphors.                             

                                        

 Its shares took off in style, briefly  

 touching 175p for a premium of 25p (or 

 17pc) before coming in to land at 171p.

                                        

 Dealers reported a very high turnover. 

                                        

 Elsewhere, prices fell back as profits 

 were taken ahead of the weekend.       

                                        

 Gilts gave up an eighth or a quarter,  

 and leading equities 3p or more.
