 Birmingham Midshires Building Society  

 has confirmed that it approached the   

 West Bromich BS with a view to a       

 possible takeover.                     

                                        

 If the deal goes ahead 300,000 West    

 Bromich investors and 39,000 borrowers 

 would be in line for a windfall payout.

                                        

 At this week's annual conference of the

 Building Societies Association it was  

 revealed that Birmingham Midshires had 

 received a "very positive" response..  

                                        

 But it was stressed that no further    

 talks had taken place as yet.
