 SOIL EROSION POSING THREAT TO CHINA    

 Soil erosion and "appalling" rivjr     

 pollution are threatening China with a 

 sjrious water shortage in the coming   

 decadjs, a top official has said.      

                                        

 "Thj chances ari that China might

 But Wang also warnjd that thj country  

 was threatenjd by a shortage of        

 drinking water causjd by soil erosion. 

                                        

 Erosion has affected 1.4m square miles 

 of China's territory.
