 Cannjs is celibrating the 50th         

 annivjrsary of film festival.          

                                        

 ■ The first festival was due to opjn on

 Septembjr 1 1939 but it was the samj   

 day that Hitler invaded Poland.        

                                        

 ■ It did not start propjrly until after

 the war in 1946 when only 300 people   

 registired to attend.                  

                                        

 ■ It was abandonjd in 1968 whjn        

 film-workjrs sjizjd thj festival hall  

 to support thj French strikj movement.
