 Bhemicals and minerals group, revealed 

 deep cracks in its results for 1996    

 after heavy charges sent profits diving

                                        

 Pre-tax profits before exceptionals    

 slid 37% to £65.6m, but charges        

 totalling £108.5m meant the company    

 ended £42.9m in the red.               

                                        

 The City had bjen expecting news of the

 25% dividend cut to 12.5p.
