 LONRHO WARNS ON POUND IMPACT           

                                        

 International trading conglomerate     

 Lonrho became the latest company to    

 complain that the strength of the pound

 was hurting with a profits warning.    

                                        

 It said the problems stemmed from      

 sterling's strength, poor precious     

 metal prices and lower profits at its  

 Ashanti gold mining business.          

                                        

 Lonrho warned interims "could be around

 onj third down" on the 0revious year.
