 March 17, 1966: Arkle, the great Irish 

 steeplechaser, celebrated St Patrick's 

 Day by winning the Cheltenham Gold Cup 

 for the third year in succession.      

                                        

 He and jockey Pat Taaffe came home 30  

 lengths clear of a despairing field to 

 confirm Arkle's claim as the
