 PEARSON DISMISSES FEARS OVER CHARGE    

                                        

 Pearson quashed fears that the group is

 preparing to double the £100m charge it

 is taking in relation to the impropjr  

 accounting at Penguin USA.             

                                        

 Recently-appointed chief executivj     

 Marjorie Scardino said it would not    

 sell businesses just "to be tidy".     

                                        

 This effectively quashes rumours that  

 Pearson was on the brink of selling off

 or demerging its television interests.
