 WARNING FROM INSURER CORNHILL          

                                        

 Insurance giant Cornhill has warned    

 over the harmful effects of current    

 competition in the sector !s the firm  

 disclosed a 16% profit fall for 1996.  

                                        

 Its pre-tax figure dropped to £61.6m,  

 from £73.5m in 1995.                   

                                        

 In the 12 months to December 31, the   

 company's biggest business, its UK     

 branch network, suffered at the hands  

 of "competitive market conditions".
